Hey there, welcome to my new website! I’m excited to have you here :)
I created the @__jmks instagram last year as a way to share and document my ceramics journey. Over time, it slowly expanded to include other things too: memes, tutorials, and assorted creative experiments.
As someone with an engineering background, I (unfortunately) couldn’t resist weaving some of that into my creative works as well. And that’s all fine and dandy, until you start asking questions like: how do you demonstrate 3D CAD-ing in under a minute, in vertical format no less?
That’s where my UX brain (the other side lol) started whispering: “make a blog~~~~~~“
What’s in the near future
Content wise, I’ll be making some tutorials and documentations on the projects that I’ve been working on. Specificially, I’ve been exploring a lot of ways to incorporate 3D printing into the ceramics making process, inspired by multiple creators online. I’ll also post helpful links and files if applicable.
Website QoL and design wise, this site definitely still needs a lot of work. You may have noticed that the blog page doesn’t have a lot of functionalities… I figured it would be ok for now, since you can count the number of blog posts on 1 hand, but I’d like to implement some search/filtering functions. I will also be adding some IG feed syncing to show the latest videos.
What’s in the distant-ish future
I’ve been wanting set up an online shop and to do commissions, so the next step would be to implement those functionalities. Specifically for commissions (of the tiny cats series), I would like to implement a system for people to send in photos and comments of their fur babies so that I can have a good reference.
Also, I don’t post my stickers much on IG, but I do make ‘em! Those will probably be the first batch of items to be posted on the online shop.
Another passion project that I’ve been working on in the background is called the Cat Museum project. Well, maybe I shouldn’t call it a passion project since I am also mostly making it for my own professional portfolio in order to get out of unemployment lol (anyone reading this looking to hire a UX researcher???) but ANYHOW, all I will reveal for now is that it is going to be a combo of ceramics + web app :^)
What’s in the far, far future
Ah, a girl can dream.
I’d love to create web apps for people to easily generate 3D printed pottery tools. Yes, I realize just now that it would make my tutorials obsolete, but think of the QoL improvements!
In closing…
I guess this article ended up being a manifesto. I’m really excited to work on these projects and I hope you’ll come along for the ride. Also please hire me.
